SIDNEY'S THOUGHTS .
ARE YOU OVERWEIGHT OR OBESE?
To find out whether you are overweight, obese, grossly obese or hopefully within the normal range visit your doctor and ask him or her to ascertain your present weight (mass) status by applying the BODY MASS INDEX FORMULA.
It is ascertained by dividing your weight (body mass) by your height. Your doctor will inform you what your ideal weight should be for your height.
If you are in the abnormal range your doctor may advise you about aspects such as diet, exercise and the negative health effects of being overweight or obese. Your doctor will probably check your blood pressure and heart rate both at rest and under stress. Your doctor will probably discuss your calorie consumption and physical activities.
Being overweight or obese will affect your athletic performance and eventually compromise your health. Being obese and especially grossly obese can be life threatening.
HOW DO I LOSE BODY MASS?
The simple formula is as follows:
Every time you eat a meal you consume a given amount of energy which is expressed in calories or kilojoules. If you consume more energy than you expend then the excess will be stored in your body as fat.
If you consistently consume more energy than you expend your body mass will increase exponentially and you will have a body mass problem and eventually a health related problem.
If you want to decrease your body mass fast then you will have to expend more calories than you consume over a given period of time. Exercise longer and more often. Exercise burns calories.
Consult a doctor or a dietician as to what foods you should consume or exclude from your diet. The obvious one for exclusion are:
excessive fats and oils, excessive carbohydrates, cool drinks, sweets, and cakes.
Go easy on the salt as too much thereof may affect your blood pressure and water retention by your body.
Do not follow any fad diets. I repeat consult your doctor and or a dietician.
Join a group of people who are focused on a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE.
Remember if you consume 1000 calories in a given period and use 500 thereof your body will store the other 500.
Compare this to a motor car. If you fill your car's petrol tank with 100 litres of petrol and use 50 litres then you will have 50 litres of petrol left in the tank. Do you get the connection?
GO WELL MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS
